Manifesto (study), work in progress
An artist, musician and teacher, living in a small town my artistic journey revolves around a simple yet profound fact: I’m curious
Currently, I’m most curious about these issues: How do we defy the pervasive stigma of aging for women as a time of decline and invisibility, and craft a counter narrative that celebrates vitality, wisdom, and resilience? How do we navigate the occupation of space as individuals and community? How do we as women respond to the environmental challenges in our ever-changing world?
Across paintings, sculptures, and printmaking, I love the exploration of processes and materials, familiar and unfamiliar. Research, for me, takes on both rigorous academic and conversational forms, from diving into scholarly articles to engaging in discussions with women in Walmart on seniors’ day. In oil or acrylic, painted or silk screened, on canvas, hand made paper, gold leaf or fabric, tree rounds and found purses, I try something new each series.
But there's something truly magical about figurative work that captivates me. It's a journey of exploration and connection. Then add text - transfers and palimpsest- and the voices and stories that shape my art are amplified.
Ultimately, my goal is to ignite your curiosity. So, when you see my work, it's not just about the subjects; it's about seeing the bigger picture of who we are and how we share this human experience.
